Insurance Rating Services

There are independent rating services that rate insurance companies on financial strength and performance. Some of the more recognizable names are 1) A.M. Best 2) Standard and Poor’s 3) Moody’s, and 4) Fitch.

Understandably, each one has their own method of evaluation and their own way of grading.

A.M. Best has different 15 ratings, ranging from the highest, A++, to the lowest, F.

Standard and Poor’s has 20 ratings ranging from the highest, AAA to the lowest, CCC.

Moody’s has 21 ratings ranging from the highest Aaa to the lowest, C.

Fitch has 24 ratings, ranging from the highest, AAA to the lowest, CCC.
